A classic PSP spin-off title tied to one of anime‘s darkest mystery franchises is coming to PlayStation 5. This is a remaster of a Japanese adventure game released in 2009. Later that same year, it received a special version for the PSP that included exclusive content.
City Connection has announced Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Jong REMASTER for PlayStation 5. The game is set for release in Japan in 2027. It also supports Japanese, Traditional Chinese, and Simplified Chinese language options.
In the game, the series’ protagonist, Keiichi Maebara, and his friends compete in one-on-one, high-stakes Japanese mahjong matches with serious consequences. There are cheats that players can use to gain an advantage over their opponents and do whatever it takes to survive in Hinamizawa.
PSP-exclusive additions return alongside new remaster enhancements
According to the YouTube description (translated to English), the remaster will have three game modes and an original scenario supervised by creator Ryukishi07. The main Oyashiro Mode has the protagonist, Keiichi, compete in all-or-nothing mahjong battles while trying to avoid the tragedy of Hinamizawa.
For those who don’t want to face the brutal consequences of losing the match, there is a Club Mode. It offers players more relaxed matches with the familiar club members. Players can choose different character combinations, with penalty games at stake. However, cheats are also available for them to help them secure victory.
The remaster brings back the PSP-exclusive game mode titled Club Mode Extra: Paikuzushi Chapter. Players get to unlock special reward cutscenes by winning matches in this mode.
For dedicated players, the new version also comes with exclusive post-game bonus content to unlock. They can explore a Bonus Gallery featuring audio dramas and guest illustrations by major artists.
In addition to PS5, City Connection is also releasing the remaster for Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam.
