Street Fighter 6 players hoping to study up on their favorite characters ahead of their next tournament appearance are down one more community resource. Ultimate Frame Data, a website where you could study character hitboxes, announced that it would be removing the SF6 portion of the website after receiving a legal request from Capcom.

MetalMusicMan posted the letter that Ultimate Frame Data had received from Capcom’s legal team. “We have confirmed that the page contains hitbox and collision-related information for Street Fighter 6 that is not ordinarily visible or accessible through normal gameplay,” the letter read. “Accordingly, we kindly request that you review the content in question and consider removing or disabling access to the relevant material by October 30, 2026.” MetalMusicMan made the decision to take down the SF6 data, writing on X, “Not my choice, sorry everyone.”

In fighting games, hitboxes are the defined sections of a character’s body that determine the range and shape of their attacks. Hitboxes are invisible during regular gameplay, but can be made visible through the use of mods. Studying hitboxes can help players improve their performance and there are many hitbox resources available for the myriad games in the fighting game genre. In its letter, Capcom claims that it does not authorize the use of the modding tools necessary to obtain the hitbox data and as such, the data must be taken down.

Naturally, the SF6 community is in disbelief that Capcom, generally considered an FGC-friendly company, would take such an extreme step when Nintendo, a very anti-FGC company, would not. Ultimate Frame Data also hosts hitbox info for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, which has, so far, remained untouched.
