The Leaked Mass Effect 5 Trailer Was Enough To Make Fans Go Feral For One Of Its Sexy, Mysterious Squadmates

If I know anything about the BioWare community, is that they only need to see a frame of a character before they fall in love with them. Mass Effect: Universe, the ill-fated fifth game in the studio’s sci-fi series, has been leaking since publisher EA shuttered the studio on Wednesday, and one of those leaks was an internal trailer that was being used to communicate the game’s James Bond-esque vibe. In that trailer, we get a few shots of what seems to have been one of the companions for the game: an unnamed male Quarian who seems a bit roguish and tech savvy. That was enough for fans to latch onto him.

This guy would have been notable, as the only other Quarian squadmate in the entire series is Tali’Zorah vas Normandy, who is on your team for all three games as long as she survives the events of Mass Effect 2. Tali remains one of the most beloved characters in the series, and a fan-favorite romance, but it did mean that we never got a male Quarian on the crew, as the Quarians had yet to arrive in the Andromeda galaxy by the time Mass Effect: Andromeda began, and their plotline was left on a cliffhanger after BioWare was forced to cancel its DLC. Could a hunky Quarian lad have joined Pathfinder Ryder’s team in the canceled Quarian Ark DLC? We’ll never know, I guess. But this guy’s brief appearance in the trailer has fans hot and bothered.

Somehow, I never fucked an alien in all of Mass Effect. As a gay man, my options were exclusively human when BioWare finally decided to acknowledge that men who like men exist in Mass Effect 3, and it wasn’t until Andromeda added a patch that made the Angaran squadmate Jaal into a bisexual love interest that I could so much as flirt with an alien man. By then it was too late. My heart belonged to the Tempest engineer Gil Brodie. But god, I would have been down to clown under this man’s suit. BioWare always excelled in making memorable party members and it’s a shame we’ll never get to see what the team was working on.
