After some pretty fierce fan backlash, Battlefield 6 is making some tweaks to its Vegas Strip map, removing some vehicle spawns in an effort to make the entire thing a bit more… fun to play, I guess. The neutral vehicle spawn will no longer be an attack helicopter, meaning that you can theoretically go about your business now without getting blasted from nowhere.
I made no secret that I thought Vegas Strip was a bit of a mess (you can read about it here if you like) – it’s a jumble of confused sightlines, no real pathing, and an environment that encourages chaos. Not very Battlefield, really. The boots-on-the-ground combat is a maelstrom of stray bullets and unsatisfying deaths, and that’s before the attack chopper comes into play.
There was a neutral vehicle spawn on the Vegas Strip that granted the controlling team an attack helicopter. Usually this would be a challenge, but not an insurmountable one – here, however, with the mess of high-rise buildings, even the most moderately skilled of pilots could weave in and out of cover and rain fire down on the enemy without putting themselves in much danger.
This was a huge issue. We’ve all encountered those annoyingly brilliant pilots in our games, but with patience, they can always be bested. Vegas Strip offers too much cover, and too little space to get rid of those devastating flying machines, however. Thankfully, the latest Battlefield Comms update put the message out that the dev team heard us and is changing that attack chopper for a transport helo.
Transports can be effective in their own way, and carry a modicum of offensive power, but they’re slow and can be countered with a bit of effort on my part. I’m all for this – it might actually bring me back into the Vegas fold.
