Santa Monica Studio has announced that it’s pushing God of War Laufey‘s initially-planned February release date to May 20th.

The announcement came from the team’s social channels, where it said that it wants the extra time to put the “finishing touches” on the PS5 exclusive and to have more time to push the game to its “fullest potential.”

The full statement reads as follows:

Since the reveal of God of War Laufey in June, we’ve been deeply grateful to see so much excitement for Faye’s journey through the Everywhen. We don’t take for granted the trust placed in our studio to make an extraordinary experience worthy of the passion and dedication of our fans.

With this in mind, we’ve made the decision to delay God of War Laufey‘s release to May 20th, 2027.

We will make the most of each moment until then by putting in the finishing touches and pushing the game to its fullest potential.

On behalf of everyone on the team, we appreciate your patience and we’ll be back to share more updates soon!

After months of rumors and speculation, God of War Laufey was officially unveiled during the June State of Play showcase, which revealed the game would star Faye, Kratos’ late wife as she battles through the Everywhen, which is essentially an afterlife for the gods. The story will run parallel to the 2018 God of War reboot and its sequel Ragnarök, with Faye attempting to help Kratos and their son Atreus from the beyond. This has fans speculating that it may fill in some gaps left by unanswered questions from both games, revealing that Faye may have been responsible for some of the oddities Kratos and Atreus encounter in their adventures.

While Faye is taking on the starring role this time around, Santa Monica Studio has confirmed a Kratos-led game is also in development, and that it will directly tie into the events of Laufey.
