You need to make an offering to Jabu-Jabu in Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake before you can rescue Princess Ruto. However, the game is rather vague about what constitutes an offering, though Jabu-Jabu’s more devoted followers do give you a hint. Assuming you look in the right place, that is.
Below, we explain where to get an offering for Jabu-Jabu and outline some of the more peculiar restrictions.
Where to get an offering (fish) for Jabu-Jabu in Zelda Ocarina of Time
As the section heading suggests, Jabu-Jabu’s preferred offering is a fish. There’s a small pond at the base of the waterfall in Zora Domain, with an enthusiastic Jabu-Jabu appreciator trying to catch some fish there. The catch, they say, would be an offering for the big guy. Grab an empty bottle and press ZR to scoop up a fish. You could also buy a fish for 30 rupees from the Zora Domain store, but there’s really no need to.
The only restriction on what type of fish Jabu-Jabu will accept as an offering is that it has to come from Zora Domain. Fish you catch at the Lake Hylia fishing spot don’t count.
With fish in hand (well, bottle), make sure you’re ready for another dungeon. Then, head to Zora’s Fountain behind King Zora. Approach Jabu-Jabu, and, with your fish bottle as your equipped item, press ZR in front of the little shell-shaped divot. Link will drop the fish in the divot, and a cutscene starts. Next up is the Jabu-Jabu’s Belly dungeon, where you’ll acquire the boomerang and make a new friend.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake is a little bit different than the original game, so if you need guides to help you through, we don’t blame you. We have walkthroughs for all the dungeons, from the Deku Tree to Ganondorf’s Castle. We also have guides for the sillier, in-between parts of the game, like when you have to find Richard (the dog) or Cuccos.
For those going for 100% completion, we also have guides on where to find every Piece of Heart, every Gold Skulltula token, and where to plant every Magic Bean.
