The Riven Tides update brought us a good many things: a lovely beach resort, some new gadgets to help with keeping our legs intact, and just so many buried model ships. It also added the Arc Turbine, a new Arc threat that doesn’t seem to do much until you find yourself being pelted by lightning bolts with seemingly no recourse.

The new Arc Raiders map has plenty to dig into (literally, in some cases), with the Turbine being front and center. The new Arc threat isn’t localized on Riven Tides, but it will likely be the first place many see it as they delve into their new surroundings. Defeating the Arc Raiders Turbine is going to be vital if you want to get your hands on some Turbine Compressors, which are needed for one of the new gadgets, so here’s how you do it.

Where does the Arc Turbine spawn?

The Arc turbine can spawn on any outdoor map where there is enough room for it to land. The Arc Turbine does not spawn at the beginning of a match; it can take anywhere from 10-20 minutes for the threat to enter the area, and even then, it isn’t 100% guarenteed it will appear at all.

Be patient, and always try to have a secondary objective in mind so your trip topside doesn’t feel like a waste. You will know when the Arc Turbine has entered the area, as you’ll hear a loud sonic boom, and then its thrusters fire as it begins to land.

How to destroy the Arc Turbine

If an Arc Turbine does appear in your match, it will rocket in and land somewhere in the open. While it looks fairly helpless, don’t be fooled, and don’t rush in. The Arc Turbine, when it lands, will deploy a minefield around the area, so keep your eyes peeled for blinking lights on the ground, lest you be sent back to Speranza in pieces.

You can avoid these mines by staying more than 10m away, or crouch walk past them to avoid setting them off. This is the first step, and the easiest. Now we have to concentrate on actually exploding the thing.

The Arc Turbine’s weak spot is its core – yellow canisters that rotate at speed. These yellow weak spots are covered by thin Arc armor plating – you can destroy these fairly quickly with concentrated fire. While the Arc Turbine is on the ground, these cores will be exposed, but once it realizes that it’s under attack, it will clam up and take to the sky.

The best strategy for destroying the Arc Turbine is to hit the yellow core as hard as you can when it is on the ground, then, when it takes flight, simply wait for it to de-aggro and land again. Rinse and repeat. You can destroy its armor plating and destroy the Turbine while it is airbourne, but this can take time, and you will have to contend with the Turbine’s lightning-fast projectiles as it defends itself.

If you do decide to take on the Arc Turbine when it’s airborne, try to concentrate fire on one of the armor plates – if you spread the damage across all of its armor, it will take far too long, and become too much of a risk. Bring along something hefty, like a Bettina or some Wolfpack grenades, to get the job done quicker.

Where to find Turbine Compressors

Each Arc Turbine has one guaranteed Turbine Compressor that can be looted from its wreckage, much like resources like the Bastion Cell being in Bastion wreckage. You will need two Turbine Compressors to complete the last stage of the Avian Alarm project. As always, watch your back if you manage to snag a Turbine Compressor, and put it in your safe pocket if you have one available – the rest of the map will likely want what you have, and won’t mind taking you out to get it.

Now that you know how to take on an Arc Turbine, you should be able to harvest as many Turbine Compressors as you like. Make sure you have a weapon with good Arc penetration, as the armor can be a bit of a doozy – check out our Arc Raiders blueprint guide to see how you can craft something with power.
