After two successful seasons on Prime Video, Fallout season 3 is now filming, according to actor Walton Goggins, who plays The Ghoul and Cooper Howard across the show’s dual timelines. Goggins posted a picture of himself on Instagram getting all dolled up as the nigh-immortal Ghoul, saying he was “back in the saddle” for season 3.

Goggins’ pics include a behind-the-scenes look at the laborious makeup process that transforms him into a Wasteland mutant, plus some random shots of a pair of dusty ol’ cowboy boots and a slick scorpion belt buckle. He’s not exactly diving into spoiler territory, but the official Fallout and Kilter Films accounts have reposted Goggins’ pic, reaffirming that season 3 is currently filming officially.

The show’s other leads, Ella Purnell, who plays Vault dweller Lucy MacLean, and Aaron Moten, who plays the Brotherhood of Steel’s Maximus, haven’t weighed in on their participation in season 3 just yet. But they’ll be back to continue their respective stories in Prime Video’s series.

Season 3 of Fallout isn’t a surprise by any stretch. Amazon renewed the post-apocalyptic sci-fi series for season 3 back in May 2025. The company has also confirmed a handful of new cast members, including Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad, Westworld), Emily Mortimer (The Newsroom, Lovely & Amazing), Manny Jacinto (The Good Place, The Acolyte), and Thomasin McKenzie (Jojo Rabbit, Last Night in Soho). Prime Video has not announced which roles Fallout season 3’s new cast members are playing.

As for how long the show will go on, Moten previously said he was pitched on a five- or six-season arc for his character, so don’t expect season 3 to be Fallout‘s last.

When will Fallout season 3 be released?

A release date for the third season of Fallout has not been announced. However, the gap between seasons 1 and 2 was less than two years, making it very likely that we will see the show return in mid to late 2027.

Prime Video’s Fallout adaptation has been another successful case of a video game series making the jump to television, with the first season racking up over 100 million views as of October 2024. The show’s initial run was nominated for 17 Emmys, including Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for Goggins. The second season generally received positive reviews, although it was criticized for some circuitous storytelling. Emmy nominations will be announced Wednesday, so we’ll soon see if Fallout is an awards darling once again.

As for where Fallout season 3 is headed, we might have a good indication of where Lucy and The Ghoul‘s post-New Vegas journey will take them next.
