As marketing for Halo: Campaign Evolved continues to ramp up following the game going gold, so too does the coverage from developer Halo Studios. Just yesterday, the team hosted an hour-long livestream where we got our first proper look at splitscreen co-op, in addition to details surrounding skulls and the challenging LASO mode.
It’s strange, we could’ve sworn we’d seen splitscreen before now, but it turns out we hadn’t. This is the official reveal, and it looks brilliant. Well, about as brilliant as sharing half a screen can look, anyway. I came away from the livestream feeling quite emotional.
The horizontal split looks natural, and combined with the devs accidentally bonking each other with friendly fire enabled, it captures the spirit of the original Halo: Combat Evolved. Considering a Halo game hasn’t shipped with campaign splitscreen co-op since Halo 4 in 2012, it’s easy to see why this is such a big deal.
As we mentioned, there’s plenty more stuffed inside the livestream, including a closer look at the Machinima mode that lets creators tell their own Halo stories like the good old days of Red vs. Blue. Additionally, there’s also a post on Halo Waypoint covering the specific Skulls you’ll need to tackle Halo: Campaign Evolved’s take on LASO.
We’ll leave you with a selection of screenshots of the game’s splitscreen co-op, and we’d love to hear what you thought of the full presentation in the comments section below.
