Ahead of Opening Night Live at Gamescom later this month, Geoff Keighley has officially announced the countdown to The Game Awards is on.
According to an update from the show’s creator and host via social media, the annual award show is now four months away and will take place on 10th December 2026 at the Peacock Theater in LA. Here’s the official announcement, with tickets and other details coming this fall.

Last year’s Game of the Year at the show was Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Nintendo’s Donkey Kong Bananza also won the “Best Family Game” award, and Mario Kart World was crowned “Best Sports/Racing Game”.
Once again, Gamescom is taking place in the immediate future with Geoff Keighley hosting Opening Night Live. Nintendo has already revealed its own playable line up, and other developers such as Square Enix apparently have a new trailer for Final Fantasy VII Revelation ready to go.
The Tokyo Game Show is also taking place in Japan this September, with many developers already revealing playable titles.
