Aniimo is an open world, free-to-play creature collector that we’ve been keeping an eye on, and today, we learned it’s dropping very soon. According to a new trailer shown during Gamescom’s Opening Night Live pre-show, the game becomes available on September 16 on consoles and PC, but September 23, one week after, on mobile platforms.

When we played Aniimo for a preview earlier this year, we came away cautiously optimistic. It’s similar to the Pokémon series, and has you gathering a party of cute, powerful animals/monsters to explore an open world and battle opponents. It stands out, however, thanks to a Twine mechanic, which allows you to directly control your Aniimo in combat and the open world to traverse and solve puzzles. You can utilize their abilities to fly through the sky and dig underground, but you’re also fully in control of their actions while battling other Aniimo. That said, the game is free-to-play, and our demo didn’t engage with that side of things, so we’re curious to see on how much those mechanics will affect the game.

You can read senior associate editor Wesley LeBlanc’s full preview here. Aniimo launches on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC on September 16 and iOS and the Google Play store on September 23.
