A new action-RPG from Remedy Entertainment has arrived on the PlayStation Store. Serving as a direct sequel to 2019’s Control, the new title introduces a new protagonist and shifts the franchise toward a melee-focused combat system.
Control Resonant is available now on the PlayStation Store for PlayStation 5, featuring visual enhancements optimized for the PS5 Pro. The Standard Edition is priced at $59.99, while the Digital Deluxe Edition costs $69.99 and includes exclusive bonus content.
Annapurna Pictures is co-financing and co-producing Control 2 as part of a strategic partnership with Remedy Entertainment.
“After years in confinement at the hands of the Federal Bureau of Control (FBC), Dylan Faden emerges into a warped Manhattan at the peak of a paranatural crisis,” reads the game’s official description.
What can players expect in Control Resonant
Dylan Faden, the younger brother of Jesse Faden in the original game, returns as the protagonist in this new installment. The game takes place in Manhattan, where players step into the shoes of Dylan, who must locate his sister, FBC Director Jesse Faden, while stopping chaotic forces like the Hiss and the Mold.
The sequel also shifts its combat away from firearms toward close-quarters combat. Dylan wields the Aberrant, a shapeshifting weapon that transforms during battle into forms such as a heavy two-handed hammer or a pair of swift dual blades.
Players can also make use of Dylan’s supernatural abilities and the environment during combat. The game also features a progression system that lets players enhance his powers and adapt them to different situations.
PlayStation LifeStyle gave the M-rated game a 7 out of 10 and called it a “risky sequel” that “is not fully successful.” The review praised the art design and some story moments. It criticized repetitive combat and a bland open world.
Physical editions for PS5 are currently available for pre-order at major retailers ahead of their scheduled October 15 launch.
