Prolific video game actor Jennifer English will no longer play the main hero in Eclipse Glow Games’ upcoming hack-and-slash action-adventure Tides of Annihilation. The development team informed fans on July 17 that Baldur’s Gate 3 and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 actor would have to pull out of voicing protagonist Gwendolyn due to “personal health reasons.”

“She will continue to support the project in an advisory role. Earlier in June, Jennifer informed us that she would no longer be able to continue in the role,” Eclipse Glow Games wrote on X. “While we were, of course, saddened by her decision, we completely understood and respected Jennifer in prioritizing her well-being. We are also deeply grateful for the care and responsibility she showed throughout this process.”

The studio said it has already found a replacement for English with her help, but didn’t reveal who it was. The new actor will appear in the latest version of the game that players go hands-on with at Gamescom 2026 in August. “We have truly enjoyed this journey together, and wish Jennifer all the very best, and most importantly, good health and happiness in whatever comes next,” the development team wrote. “To our players, thank you for your continued support and understanding. We’re truly grateful to have you on this journey with us.”

English is best known for her role as Shadowheart in Baldur’s Gate 3 and Maelle in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. She’s also appeared in Elden Ring, Wuthering Waves, and most recently Marathon. Tides of Annihilation was first revealed during a 2025 PlayStation showcase and revolves around elements of Arthurian legend invading modern-day London for an urban fantasy action game that focuses on flashy arcade combat. It’s the latest single-player AAA blockbuster to come out of China, following in the footsteps of games like Black Myth Wukong.

English’s involvement had helped raise the profile of the game. Earlier this year she won a BAFTA for her role in Clair Obscur.
