Move over Fable, God of War Laufey is launching in Feb. 2027
Sony Santa Monica and PlayStation Studios have finally confirmed a release date for God of War Laufey. Thankfully, we won’t have to wait long for it, as the PS5 exclusive launches next February.
More specifically, it’s out on Feb. 16, 2027. Just as this September is looking crowded with games avoid Grand Theft Auto 6, Feb. 2027 is shaping up to be just as packed. Laufey now headlines a Feb. 2027 release calendar that includes other high-profile AAA games like Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, Persona 4 Revival, Fable, and Metro 2039. There’ll certainly be no shortage of great games to check out that month, although most PS5 owners will have their eye on this first-party God of War title.
This release date news was revealed during the game’s San Diego Comic-Con 2026 panel, where we also learned that a new God of War title starring Kratos is in development. For the first time, Kratos won’t be the star of a God of War title, because Laufey instead focuses on Faye. Laufey reveals that after her death at the start of 2018’s God of War, Faye was whisked away to the Everywhen, which is the afterlife of gods.
This will be the first God of War game to feature gods from outside Greek and Norse mythology, and it has combat that’s a bit faster-paced than recent games in the series. Faye will be portrayed by Daredevil: Born Again’s Deborah Ann Woll and will be accompanied by a Phranque, a big cosmic cube played by Jack Quaid. Both actors appeared alongside Cory Barlog and Christopher Judge at the game’s SDCC 2026 panel to share their excitement about the project and portraying these characters.
God of War Laufey launches exclusively for PS5 on Feb. 16, 2027, and it’ll have a physical release. New God of War games starring Kratos, including a remake of the Greek game trilogy, are also in the works.
