An NBA star has predicted that the release of the highly anticipated GTA 6 might lead to a drop in performance across the leagues. The star also predicts that coaching and scouting will suffer as the next installment in the Grand Theft Auto series returns after a 13-year wait.
Steven Adams revealed on media day that he believes the release of GTA will impact league-wide performance in November. However, he is also sure that such dips in quality will be temporary yet inevitable.
Why Steven Adams thinks GTA 6 will distract more than just players
Steven Adams thinks that the focus on games would take a hit as GTA 6 releases. GTA 5 came out in 2013, and there hasn’t been a game in the mainline franchise since. There is therefore no data yet to support the prediction. Nonetheless, Adams is sure that the game’s launch will affect players, coaches, and scouts alike in November.
He stated, “I will say, you guys should anticipate November, the performance of the league, league-wide… GTA is dropping. So look at NFL, look at all the leagues and watch them plummet, mate. Just for the month of November, performance is gonna go down. It should come back up though, most of the boys will get it done, hopefully they finish the game. Coaching as well, by the way. The coaching and scouts are gonna be horrendous, mate.”
In sports, off-field events are rarely considered when evaluating player performance. Aside from personal and major events, it is usually expected that nothing will affect a player’s performance beyond his mindset during the game. However, GTA 6’s release could, as Adams predicts, lead to a subtle loss of focus. However, he is also confident that any dip in player performance will be reversed just as quickly in December.
