GTA 6 is one of the most anticipated game releases of the decade, and twelve years after the last Grand Theft Auto game, we finally have a release date – a console release date. As excitement swells, trailers and key art have revealed some key details, but one obvious hint might bring bad news.
The first trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6 was released in December, 2023, along with its two protagonists and the Vice City GTA 6 map location. Since the first trailer, the release date has been delayed to 2026, we got a second trailer and then a lengthy gameplay showcase on Netflix. None of these have given any indication of when GTA 6 will be arriving on PC, though.
GTA 6 PC release date estimate
We estimate that GTA 6 will be coming to PC in mid/late 2027. GTA 5 took 18 months to cross over, and Red Dead Redemption 2 took an entire year. With consoles becoming more premium, we expect GTA 6 to arrive slightly sooner than Rockstar’s last two outings.
The official GTA 6 site now lists the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S as the consoles available at launch, and a previous press release sent out by Rockstar Games confirms that “Grand Theft Auto VI is coming to PlayStation 5 computer entertainment systems and Xbox Series X|S games and entertainment systems,” seemingly confirming that GTA 6 will only release on next-gen consoles.
There may be an issue at launch, however, as the supply of consoles isn’t quite, let’s say, ideal. With the lack of an actual platform for players to play GTA 6 on, there are rumors that the PC release date might be sooner than people think. We’re crossing our fingers and toes for a short wait, as we all know that PC is the best place to play the world’s biggest game.
This isn’t new for the Grand Theft Auto series. GTA 3 and 4 were both released to PC around six months after their initial release dates, while GTA 5 came to PC a whole 18 months after console. Hopefully, then, we shouldn’t have to wait too long after our console companions, and maybe the PC release window could come in 2026 as well.
With any GTA release, there are some things we look forward to more than others. The GTA 6 PC release is no different, so we’re already looking ahead to the GTA 6 soundtrack, the high-speed GTA 6 cars and motorcycles we want to see, and of course all the GTA 6 weapons and guns we might be able to equip.
