Halo Studios has teased that a remake of Halo 2 is coming, and they’ve done it in the best possible way.
Back in 2001, players who managed to complete the final mission of Halo: Combat Evolved on Legendary difficulty were treated with a secret ending. It wasn’t anything major, just a fun cutscene featuring the UNSC’s finest, Sergeant Johnson hugging a Covenant Elite as the Halo ring exploded around them.
Well, Halo: Campaign Evolved has its own Legendary cutscene for those bold enough to beat The Maw on the hardest difficulty, only this time it’s much more than just a bit of tongue and cheek. Of course, if you’d rather not spoil the specifics, now is a great time to stop reading.
In the game’s secret Legendary cutscene, Sergeant Johnson is shown watching the bonus cutscene for the original before making his way towards an extraction Pelican as the Halo ring begins to explode once again. Just before he departs, Johnson breaks the fourth wall with a “See you in the sequel” mic-drop, seemingly confirming Halo Studios already has its sights set on a remake of Halo 2.
If that wasn’t enough, there’s also an additional post-credits scene showing 343 Guilty Spark heading towards a planet, seemingly setting the stage for the events of Halo 2.
