Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls is rather unique in that it’s a 4v4 fighting game. However, it’s a little more complicated than 3v3 fighters of the past, as the order in which you select your character fixes them into specific roles: Leader, Shooter, Vertical, and Assault.

As a result, the Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls roster needs to be evaluated with everything in mind. Some fighters are versatile, while others are one-note, and that’s how we’ll be evaluating their overall rankings on the tier list. So just because one character has an amazing Vertical special doesn’t mean that they are suited for all roles. Those paying attention to Episode Mode might also notice an extra character in the tier list at his own rank, as comparing him to everyone else is unfair.

The entire roster is standing up to the Promoter and her boss: The Champion.

Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls Tier List

While Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls assigns each character an “ease of use” star rank, the reality is that some are more equal than others. Any character that’s a C-tier here is there more because of a lack of versatility, rather than because they are objectively a ‘bad character’.

They may be one of the best characters to assign to a specific slot, and nothing else, whereas a higher-ranking character might excel at everything except what the low-tier character can do. It’s like Wolverine often says: he’s the best at what he does, but that doesn’t mean he’s the best at everything. We will also update this list with every balance patch, trending picks, and DLC updates via the Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls roadmap.

Here is the current overall Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls Tier List:

Champion-Tier Champion
S-Tier Magik, Blade, Magneto, Hulk, Spider-Man
A-Tier Storm, Loki, Carnage, Iron Man, Star-Lord, Doctor Doom, Ms. Marvel
B-Tier Ghost Rider, Deadpool, Green Goblin, Captain America, Black Panther, Wolverine
C-Tier Peni Parker, Danger
Magik is a phenomenal Leader. Her sword can execute some of the best damaging combos.

Best Leaders

Hulk is the best Leader character in the game right now, and it’s all to do with just how much of a problem he causes with his armored body. By pressing his Gamma radiation unique while an opponent is down, you can easily boost his attacks and speed to problematic levels for your opponent. This forces them on the defensive, as attacking Hulk risks counters, which are very powerful in the current meta.

Other easy-to-use characters such as Magik, Blade, Black Panther, and Spider-Man do very well in the Leader slot. Each one has a gimmick that is, at times, unpredictable, from Blade’s kunai (if you combine with the projectile assist) to Magik’s portals. Lower-tier characters like Ms. Marvel are really good at zipping around, and her moves are relatively simple to learn, but she’s rather basic compared to the highest-tier fighters.

Highly technical characters, such as Green Goblin, Storm, and Danger, will fare a little worse, but this is more of a symptom of the community needing to work out what they excel at. Green Goblin, for example, is highly technical and requires the player to memorize so much, from the order of which grenades he throws and their effects, to an entirely new moveset while riding his glider. It’s entirely possible to do well with him, but you’ll need to put in the work in training mode and learn how he works.

Any character in the lower tiers has at least one issue to address. Captain America’s shield-throw unique move is ineffective and slow, and his counter requires a level of precision that can be tricky in fast-paced fighters such as this one. Iron Man, on the other hand, is great at keeping foes away, but crumbles whenever anyone gets too close. Peni Parker has some randomized projectiles, making consistency an issue, especially when combined with her mech’s massive body, while it’s quite easy to render Ghost Rider useless by filling his heat gauge too much. And then there’s Deadpool. His healing rate is somewhat too slow to deal with his need to convert

S-Tier Hulk, Magik, Blade, Black Panther, Spider-Man
A-Tier Ms. Marvel, Wolverine, Carnage, Magneto, Star-Lord, Loki
B-Tier Green Goblin, Storm, Danger, Doctor Doom
C-Tier Iron Man, Peni Parker, Ghost Rider
D-Tier Captain America, Deadpool
Doctor Doom’s Shooter Assist is a big laser beam that comes out really quickly.

Best Shooters

The key to a good Shooter is speed and range. The higher on the tier list they are, the quicker and bigger their projectiles get. Iron Man excels here with the best projectile in the game, while both Magneto and Doctor Doom are snappy enough. Magik would be higher as her fireball is fast, but it’s also smaller than Magneto’s metal ball, which comes out just as quickly.

Multi-hit projectiles do a little worse here, so Green Goblin and Peni Parker suffer in this department, as there is a chance only one bullet will hit. Blade just about makes it into B-tier here, as his bullets are rapid fire. The reason Black Panther is so low is that she takes way too long to throw her spear, which is easily dodged.

The sole outlier here is Ghost Rider, whose ranged assist works a little differently. It pops the enemy into the air, allowing you to combo at a distance that isn’t available to anyone else. It’s surprisingly effective, so well worth experimenting with. While Hulk and Wolverine excel at a lot, their projectiles are a bit of a waste of a slot.

S-Tier Iron Man, Magneto, Doctor Doom
A-Tier Magik, Loki, Ghost Rider
B-Tier Blade, Captain America, Storm, Danger, Deadpool, Ms. Marvel, Star-Lord, Spider-Man, Carnage
C-Tier Green Goblin, Black Panther, Peni Parker
D-Tier Hulk, Wolverine
Blade’s vertical assist has him swipe his Muramasa blade in a huge vertical arch.

Best Verticals

A lot of the Verticals are very similar in how high they launch the opponent and the damage they do, so much of the ranking here is based on speed of execution and its range. Both Blade and Hulk have massive hitboxes, making their anti-air assist extremely effective. Those in A-tier are quick to execute theirs, while B-tier will do just fine for most teams.

Green Goblin and Danger are the ones who don’t really stand out as good in this role. Goblin’s anti-air projectiles are really small, so they are quite easy to dodge compared even to Black Panther’s otherwise unremarkable spear. Danger has the roughest deal, as she needs to be standing next to the opponent for hers to hit.

S-Tier Blade, Hulk
A-Tier Deadpool, Ghost Rider, Magik, Storm, Ms. Marvel
B-Tier Iron Man, Loki, Wolverine, Captain America, Star-Lord, Spider-Man, Peni Parker, Magneto, Doctor Doom, Carnage, Black Panther
C-Tier Green Goblin
D-Tier Danger
The Hulk is smashing Captain America with a big rock while Magik watches.

Best Assaults

Magik has the best Assault assist, as she slams her sword into the ground to create three fiery pillars. It’s incredibly hard to avoid, especially if another character is performing an overhead attack to open the opponent to combos. It does less damage, only 9,500 compared to most achieving 10,000 and Iron Man reaching 10,500 respectively, but it’s easier to connect and opens the foe to follow-ups.

As for the rest of the S-Tier and A-Tier, there’s something good about all of them, whether it’s Blade’s ability to cross-up your opponent, Spider-Man dragging your opponent toward you, or Loki’s projectile and slashing combo doing decent damage; these characters are great picks.

Peni Parker’s a strange case, because despite the highest damage potential of the entire roster with her Assault Assist, it’s random which gadgets she uses, so you may whiff some hits just based on the first gadget knocking them airborne while the second zips through harmlessly underneath.

Danger is at the bottom because of the damage falloff as her drill flies through the air, which defeats the point of being in this role. Ms. Marvel’s multihit spinning attack and Doctor Doom’s orbital laser also take too long to hit, though it can be argued that the latter just needs setup to be effective.

S-Tier Magik, Magneto, Hulk, Storm, Spider-Man, Carnage
A-Tier Green Goblin, Iron Man, Blade, Loki, Star-Lord
B-Tier Captain America, Deadpool
C-Tier Black Panther, Ghost Rider, Wolverine, Peni Parker
D-Tier Doctor Doom, Danger, Ms. Marvel
The Champion is flexing his muscles to build up his Crowd Pleaser bar.

The Champion

Okay, let’s face it, it’s rather unfair to compare The Champion to everyone else. This is because he acts completely differently from the rest of the roster, preferring to go it alone, and this is especially apparent when it comes to how his assist button works.

It is possible to swap him out with the tag button, but he’s best used as a solo fighter to charge up his Crowd Pleaser bar. You can accelerate its progress by hitting your opponent or pressing the assist button. Once it fills, execute a Supernova Slam (his Command Grab unique button attack), and he’ll transform into his Supernova form, which unlocks clones he can summon with his assist button.

As for the rest of his moves, they’re pretty much busted thanks to his high-damaging supers, long-range and hard-hitting normals, and a surprisingly effective command grab. He’ll also rise to the occasion in the rare instance when he is put in one of the Assist slots. We also don’t know how he’ll factor into competitive tournaments, whether he’ll receive the same fate as other boss characters, but for now he is in a class of his own.
