Black Myth: Wukong was a smash hit in 2024. Fans have been waiting for Game Science to reveal its next game following its success. The Chinese developer has finally revealed Black Myth: Zhong Kui in its full glory after almost two years. Like the previous PS5 game, the upcoming sequel will also be inspired by Chinese mythology.
Game Science has released a 15-minute video showcasing gameplay from the sequel, including a reveal of its protagonist and environments. The footage is from a work-in-progress build running at a 21:9 aspect ratio. The game was first announced at last year’s Opening Night Live during Gamescom. In it, players will step into the boots of Zhong Kui, a Chinese deity who wanders between Earth and Hell, vanquishing demons.

What Game Science revealed about Black Myth: Zhong Kui’s direction
The trailer doesn’t feature any dialogue, but it has plenty of impressive gameplay featuring new combat mechanics. Developed in Unreal Engine 5, the game looks visually impressive for a PS5 game, with near photo-realistic environments and characters. In combat, Zhong Kui dodges and parries attacks with his sword, but can also use elemental attacks. One instance shows him throwing down a bomb, engulfing the forest in flames, and absorbing the fire into his sword.
Game Science has confirmed that Zhong Kui, like Wukong, will be a single-player action RPG. The game. In the official website‘s FAQ section, the developer said that it is “exploring distinctive gameplay tailored to the new protagonist, cutting-edge technical features, and differentiated approaches to storytelling.” However, fans expecting the game to release imminently will be disappointed, as Game Science confirmed it is a long way from launch.
Black Myth: Wukong launched to positive reviews and was a financial success, selling over 20 million units in its first month. Game Science continued to support the game with post-launch updates, adding new modes and features.
