A new PlayStation 5 game in a popular series has been leaked ahead of the official announcement. Developers Q-Games confirmed that they will announce a new project at the Gamescom 2026 event. CEO Dylan Cuthbert also teased an announcement last week.

Q-Games confirmed it would be appearing at the Future Game Show at Gamescom on August 26, 2026, where it will make the planned “special announcement.” However, ahead of this special announcement, an X user, Wario64, posted that PixelJunk Monsters 3 was spotted on SteamDB, with an August 24 release date listed.

The listing was for a playtest version, which is no longer available on the platform. Cuthbert previously teased that they would be “announcing something” soon, and based on the screenshot, fans are speculating that the announcement could involve the PixelJunk Monsters 3 launch.

PixelJunk has a long history on PlayStation

The PixelJunk franchise has been partnering with PlayStation for quite some time now. The first game, PixelJunk Racers, was released in 2007. This game introduced gamers to its retro arcade-style gameplay with fast-paced racing challenges.

The franchise expanded on the PS3 with titles like PixelJunk Monsters, a tower-defense game where players must protect a village from monsters. Moreover, the PS3 also received PixelJunk Eden, which focused on exploring colorful gardens and collecting various kinds of seeds.

To diverge from the strategic gameplay, PixelJunk Shooter shifted the series toward action-based gameplay. Here, players had to rescue trapped miners while navigating dangerous underground scenarios.

The franchise eventually made it to the PS4 and released PixelJunk Shooter Ultimate and PixelJunk Monsters 2 on PS4. PixelJunk Scrappers Deluxe was released for the PS5. Throughout the franchise’s history on PlayStation, the PixelJunk games have explored different genres while maintaining their original retro style.

The new PixelJunk Monsters 3 is rumored to be the game behind Q-Games’ upcoming announcement. However, the developer has yet to confirm the game, so its existence and release plans remain unconfirmed ahead of the Gamescom announcement
