June 2, 2026: We added the latest information about the third Minecraft drop set to arrive later this fall.
Ever since Minecraft launched over a decade ago, it has constantly evolved with each passing year, adding more content, features, and functionality to the core experience. In 2024, Mojang, the game’s developers, announced a radical change to bring more frequent updates to Minecraft called ‘drops,’ set to arrive every few months to ensure the game remains fresh.
The current Minecraft update is Tiny Takeover, adding baby mobs, name tags for pets, and a golden dandelion that stops your critters from growing up. The next Minecraft update in the pipeline is Chaos Cubed, introducing Sulfur Cubes which open up brand-new minigames to play after a hard day of surviving the wilderness. We also got our first look at the 26.3 update during Minecraft Live, showing off the Dappled Forest biome for the first time.
Next Minecraft update release date estimate
The Minecraft 1.26.2 update, Chaos Cubed, will most likely arrive on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, judging by the release dates of previous drops.
Mojang has been sticking closely to a quarterly schedule for its game content drops, with Minecraft Live airing every six months to coincide with a new drop release.
Minecraft updates, patches, and snapshots rarely have a set launch time, but they usually take place on or around 8am PT / 11am ET / 4pm GMT.
Minecraft Chaos Cubed new features
Minecraft 1.26.2, officially titled Chaos Cubed, comes boasting a new cave biome consisting of sulfur caves packed with two new block sets: cinnabar and sulfur. Along with this new biome, we’re introduced to the newest Minecraft mob, the Sulfur Cube.
This bouncy block has a unique feature where it will absorb any nearby block and take on unique properties based on whatever it was. For example, if it absorbs an ice block, the Sulfur Cube will become almost frictionless, capable of sliding for long distances whenever struck.
The Sulfur Cube mobs open up a whole host of possibilities for other activities, with the Minecraft Live video showing us various carnival games, using the Sulfur Cubes as curling stones and bouncing platforms for parkour antics.
Everything arriving in Minecraft 26.3
When the season turns to fall, we’ll be closer to the Minecraft 26.3 update, which is set to include a new forest biome: Dappled Forest. We got our first glimpse of the colorful forest at Minecraft Live in May 2026, showing off the new poplar tree with its autumnal leaves descending slowly in the wind.
The poplar blocks feature a grayish hue, a color that the developers say matches well with both stone and the pale oak wood set. Decorating the area are red shrubs, fallen logs, and mushrooms scattered across the ground. The red shrubs are unique in that they aren’t tinted by the biome you’re in, meaning you can place these anywhere and they will always maintain their red vibrancy.
We’re also getting a new structure known as the Abandoned Camp. These new structures come equipped with a chest, a fire, and cover to protect you from the dangers lurking in the outside world. The roof is made from wool stairs, a new addition to the game that can be dyed any color, alongside wool slabs, which fans have been desperate for.
You’ll be able to see the Dappled Forest for yourself later this summer when it hits the latest Minecraft snapshots. Based on the previous Minecraft drop dates, we believe this update should be live sometime between September and October.
