Sony Interactive Entertainment has rolled out a new PS5 feature update for September 2026 that brings a new animated theme for the Welcome Hub. The background celebrates Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us franchise with a pretty nifty animation.
PS5 Welcome Hub update adds animated background featuring The Last of Us Part 1 & 2
The theme, which should be available in all regions now, can be accessed by going to the Welcome Hub > Backgrounds > Games. Since it’s newly added, it should be the first one that you see.
The image (pictured below) depicts The Last of Us Part 1 & 2, showing Ellie’s growth through the events of both games, with two significant characters in the background: Joel and Abby.
A thunder animation adds a nice touch to the theme.
If you don’t see the new background yet, you can manually update PS5 system features via the settings menu. However, this is a backend update that’s applied automatically, so if you don’t mind waiting, it’ll appear for you eventually.
If you still want to update system features manually, follow these steps: Hit the Settings cog in the top right of your PS5 home screen (next to the profile thumbnail), then navigate down to System. From the drop-down menu on the right, select System Feature Updates, and then wait for the process to finish.
