Resident Evil‘s long-requested crossover between its remakes and numbered games could finally be coming. Producer Jun Takeuchi has revealed that Capcom is already considering how the two sides of the franchise will eventually collide.
Regarding what will happen when the remakes catch up with the newer Resident Evil games, the producer said, “Eventually, the remake series will catch up to the era of the numbered titles, and the mechanisms for that are already being considered.”
How Resident Evil 7, Village, and Requiem have been building toward a crossover
Takeuchi made the comments in a Japanese publication, as reported by Games Radar. Translations of the printed interview differ slightly, but the overall meaning is largely the same. Capcom has been preparing for the remakes to eventually catch up with the newer games, and has already been seeding releases with easter eggs.
Takeuchi also explained how Capcom has been preparing for this crossover. He said, “In fact, preparations for this have been gradually underway since Resident Evil Village, including the appearance of names like Umbrella and Spencer, and the reappearance of Raccoon City in Requiem. This is all in preparation for a crossover.”
During the interview, Takeuchi did not reveal details about any new numbered entries in the franchise. The next remake in the franchise is Resident Evil Veronica, which Capcom has officially announced for 2027. It is a remake of Resident Evil – Code: Veronica, which was originally released in 2000. No release date has yet been locked for the project.
Some fans have interpreted Takeuchi’s comments as suggesting that remakes of Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 6 could eventually happen. However, Capcom has not confirmed remakes of either game. While Capcom is continuing its remake strategy, it remains unclear whether any projects beyond Resident Evil Veronica are currently in development.
