Fans of a cult classic RPG franchise from the PSP era are in for a pleasant surprise. NIS America has announced a remake of the Korean RPG Astonishia Story with multiple enhancements coming to modern consoles. The franchise originally debuted on MS-DOS in the 1990s, followed by a port to the PlayStation Portable in the following decade.
The party-based pixel RPG follows the young knight Lloyd von Reuental on a quest to recover a stolen ancient relic and regain his honor. Along the way, Reuental will have to stop the Elven Queen from claiming the power of an ancient god. The game features strategic grid-based battles and focuses on recruiting mercenaries to aid the heroic knight.

What’s changing in the updated Astonishia Story experience
Like most remakes, the new Astonishia Story will feature enhanced graphical fidelity and improved resolution. The high-resolution visuals in the trailer make it feel at home on modern consoles and pixel-art RPGs in the PS5 generation. The game’s combat mechanics have also been refined and updated, along with several quality-of-life features and new optional mercenaries.
A special edition of the game will also launch with it, bringing additional goodies. It includes the following items:
- Astonishia Story full game on disk/catridge
- Astonishia Story digital soundtrack
- “Astonishing Sights” card set
- Storied Sun acrylic key item
- Side-by-side acrylic stand
The RPG franchise was originally developed by Korean developer Sonnori. After the first game’s success, the series saw multiple installments, including a sequel and a remake. It debuted in the U.S. in 2006 after being published by Ubisoft. The remake is being developed by Waycoder Ltd. and Daewon Media.
Astonishia Story will be released on PC, PS5, and Nintendo Switch 2 on February 11, 2027. Its special edition is available now for pre-order at $49.99.
