There are more than a few advantages to fighting at night in The Blood of Dawnwalker: huge, razor-sharp claws, the ability to teleport, and, if you can unlock it, the Mandrake Ward perk. Being a vampire has its pluses, but to unlock the most powerful of them all, you’ll have to jump through a few hoops first.
Unlocking parts of The Blood of Dawnwalker Vampirism perk tree generally involves drinking blood, increasing corruption, and gaining levels. Fairly straightforward, right? The Mandrake Ward perk, however, asks a bit more from you, with a fairly long mission tied to it – it’s more than worth it, though.

How to unlock the Mandrake Ward perk
The Mandrake Ward perk allows you to be revived instantly from death once per night. This can be an absolute game-changer when it comes to fighting Brencis or any of the other deadly foes dotted around the map. To unlock the Mandrake Ward perk, speak to Lacra before fighting Brencis, where you’ll be offered the mission The Night of Horrors – the reward for this being the Mandrake Ward perk.
The general gist of the mission is: follow the wisps, defeat the enemies, have a chat. Coen energizes the wisps by feeding them strong emotions, which is basically just him and Lacra talking about how difficult things have been getting to this point. Thankfully (we think, anyway), there has been a lot of hardship up to this point, so there’s a lot to talk about.
When the wisps have had their fill and every enemy in your way is in pieces, the Mandrake Ward perk will be unlocked. Visit a shrine and spend a perk point to acquire this powerful passive ability. Having a do-over once a night will put you in great stead for the fights ahead, especially with the head-honcho himself, Brencis.
